🔥 Ever wondered what it’s like to switch off completely and just soak up the best vibes on the East Coast? Just got back from 10 glorious days in Byron Bay and I’m absolutely buzzing to share this itinerary with you!
🗓️ Day 1: Arrival & The Lighthouse Walk
Touch down and head straight to your accommodation to dump the bags. First mission? The iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse walk! It’s a decent uphill trek but the views over the ocean are absolutely worth the sweat. Stick around for sunset—if you’re lucky, you might spot a few dolphins or even a whale if it’s the right season. Grab dinner at one of the local Thai joints in town afterwards. Heaps good!
🏄 Day 2: Learn to Surf at The Pass
You can’t come to Byron without hitting the waves. The Pass is legendary for beginners. Book a lesson with a local surf school—they’ll get you standing in no time. Even if you stack it a few times, it’s a total laugh. Spend the arvo chilling on Wategos Beach, it’s a bit quieter and perfect for a swim. Don’t forget your sunnies and zinc!
🛶 Day 3: Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Adventure
Today’s the day for some water action! Head to the calm waters of Tallow Beach or the Brunswick River for a Stand Up Paddleboarding session. It’s way easier than it looks and gives you a killer core workout. If you’re new, grab a guided tour or hire a board for a couple of hours. Paddling out at sunrise is magic—the water is like glass and the colours are unreal. Trust me, it’s one of the best ways to see Byron from a different angle.
🦘 Day 4: Crystal Castle & Hinterland Vibes
Take a break from the coast and head inland to the Crystal Castle. It’s a bit hippy-dippy but the gardens are stunning and the giant crystals are mind-blowing. Grab a coffee and a cake in the café before checking out the nearby Bangalow village. It’s full of cute boutiques and antique shops. Great for a lazy arvo stroll.
🏕️ Day 5: Minyon Falls & Night Out
Lace up your hiking boots for the Minyon Falls loop in Nightcap National Park. It’s about 4-5 hours return and takes you through lush rainforest to a spectacular waterfall. You can even go for a dip if you’re brave enough! Head back to town, freshen up, and hit the local breweries. The Byron Bay Brewery is a solid pick for a feed and a few cold ones.
🚴 Day 6: Bike Ride to Broken Head
Hire a bike in town and pedal your way down to Broken Head. It’s a lovely scenic ride hugging the coast. Check out the Broken Head Nature Reserve—the rainforest meets the beach here and it’s stunning. Find a secluded spot for a picnic lunch and just relax. The vibe here is super chill compared to the main town centre.
🌿 Day 7: Farmers Market & Relax
Wake up early (I know, it’s hard) and hit the Byron Bay Community Markets. They’re on Thursdays and Sundays, packed with local artisans, fresh food, and live music. Grab a brekkie burrito and a coffee. Spend the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing—maybe a yoga class or a read on the beach. It’s your holiday, mate!
🛥️ Day 8: Kayak with Dolphins
This one’s for the bucket list. Join a sea kayak tour from The Pass. Paddling out into the open ocean can be a bit of a workout, but when you’re surrounded by a pod of dolphins playing in the waves, you won’t care! It’s a bloody unreal experience. Even if you don’t see dolphins, the views of the coastline from the water are tops.
🍕 Day 9: Foodie Tour & Sunset
Eat your way through Byron today! Start with smashed avo for brekkie, maybe a poke bowl for lunch, and book a nice dinner for tonight—try Fleet or The Roadhouse if you want something special. Spend your final arvo at Tallows Beach watching the surfers. It’s a great spot to reflect on the trip.
🚗 Day 10: Coffee & Departure
Before you head off, grab one last epic coffee from a local café (Top Shop or The Bayleaf are faves). Do a final lap of the shops to grab some souvenirs—a bit of local art or some funky clothes. Pack the car, take one last deep breath of that fresh ocean air, and hit the road. Safe travels!
💡 Pro Tips & Total Cost
For a family of four, you’re looking at roughly $4000-$6000 AUD for 10 days, depending on accommodation choices. This includes food, activities, and car hire. Avoid the school holidays if you can—it gets packed! Book your popular dinners and surf lessons in advance to avoid missing out.
