π₯ Ever wondered what it’s like to swap the daily grind for ten days of sun, surf, and serenity in Australia’s most famous coastal town? Just got back from an absolute ripper of a 10-day family adventure in Byron Bay, and honestly, I’m still buzzing!
ποΈ Day 1: Arrival & The Lighthouse Walk
Touch down and soak up that instant relaxed vibe. Head straight to the Byron Bay Lighthouse for the classic Cape Byron walking track. It’s a solid 3.7km loop but the views of the coastline are bloody unreal. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins surfing the waves below! Finish up with a swim at Wategos Beach to wash off the travel dust.
ποΈ Day 2: Learning to SUP at The Pass
Time to get wet! Start the morning with a Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) lesson at The Pass. It’s perfect for beginners because the water is usually calm and protected. I took the kids here last year and they were standing up within minutes. If you’re feeling confident, paddle out to the wreck and check out the marine life.
ποΈ Day 3: Surfing Lessons & Fish & Chips
You can’t come to Byron without trying to surf. There are heaps of surf schools along Main Beach that cater to all ages. Even if you only manage to kneel, it’s a laugh. For lunch, grab some traditional fish and chips and eat them on the grass while watching the pros carve it up at The Pass.
ποΈ Day 4: Craving Falls & Hinterland Vibes
Swap the beach for the rainforest. Drive 45 minutes inland to Minyon Falls. It’s a bit of a hike but standing at the top of that 100m waterfall is worth the sweat. There’s a great swimming hole at the bottom if you’re keen for a refreshing dip in the fresh water. Pack a picnic brekkie to make a morning of it.
ποΈ Day 5: Sunrise Paddle & Markets
Get up early (trust me, it’s worth it) for a sunrise paddle on the Belongil Estuary. The glassy water reflects the sky like a mirrorβit’s pure magic. After a nap and a late lunch, wander through the Byron Bay Community Markets. The live music, local art, and street food make it a top arvo activity.
ποΈ Day 6: Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens
Take a drive out to Mullumbimby to visit the Crystal Castle. It might sound a bit ‘out there,’ but the gardens are absolutely stunning and the giant crystals are mind-blowing. The kids love the labyrinth walk and the rainforest scenery. It’s a peaceful change of pace from the beach crowds.
ποΈ Day 7: Kayaking with Turtles
Head to Julian Rocks Marine Reserve for a sea kayaking tour. This is one of the best ways to see the local wildlife. We paddled right past a massive sea turtle and saw rays gliding under the kayaks. It’s heaps good fun and safe for the little ones if the weather is calm.
ποΈ Day 8: Exploring Bangalow
Jump in the car and visit the heritage town of Bangalow. It’s only 15 minutes up the road. The main street is full of boutique shops, vintage stores, and cafes. Grab a coffee and a donut, then check out the old pubs. It’s a great spot for some relaxed family photos.
ποΈ Day 9: The Farm Byron Bay
Spend your second last day eating your way around The Farm Byron Bay. It’s a working farm with a restaurant, bakery, and produce store. The food is fresh, local, and delicious. The kids can run around looking at the chickens and pigs while you enjoy a coffee. It’s the perfect chill day before heading home.
ποΈ Day 10: One Last Dip & Farewell
No rush this morning. Pack up the car but keep the swimmers handy. Head to Tallows Beach for one last body surf before hitting the road. It’s a bit quieter than Main Beach and great for families. Grab one last acai bowl, say cheers to Byron, and start planning your next trip back!
