🔥 Just got back from a ripper 5-day road trip along the stunning NSW North Coast, and I’m keen to spill all the local secrets that’ll make your Byron Bay adventure absolutely heaps good!
🗓️ Day 1: Sydney to Port Macquarie
Start early and hit the Pacific Highway! Grab brekkie at a servo before hitting the road. First stop is Taree for a quick stretch, then push on to Port Macquarie. Check into your digs, grab some fish and chips by the river, and if you’re keen, hit the beach for a sunset swim. Don’t forget to spot the koalas at the Koala Hospital – it’s a proper ripper!
🗓️ Day 2: Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour
Another early start today, mate! The drive up the coast is unreal – you’ll want to pull over heaps for photos. Stop in Kempsey for the famous Big Banana photo op (even if you’ve seen it before, it’s a classic!). Arrive in Coffs Harbour by arvo, check into your accommodation, then head to the Jetty Theatre for some live tunes and a cold one. The underwater world at the Solitary Islands Marine Park is worth a dive if you’re into that sort of thing.
🗓️ Day 3: Coffs Harbour to Byron Bay
Today’s the big one, folks! Make sure you’re fuelled up for the drive – about 3 hours of pure coastal beauty. Stop at Bellingen for a coffee fix at one of those hipster cafes the town’s famous for. Hit the road again and arrive in Byron around lunchtime. Check into your digs, grab a feed at The Top Shop, then head straight to Main Beach. The vibe here is unreal – you’ll wanna stay forever!
🗓️ Day 4: Full Byron Experience
Get up early and head to the Cape Byron Lighthouse for sunrise – it’s absolutely worth the early wake-up call! Afterward, grab some proper Aussie brekkie at Bayleaf. Spend the arvo at the markets (they’re on every Thursday and Sunday) or hit the beach for a surf lesson if you’re keen. For arvo drinks, hit the Beach Hotel – it’s a proper institution. Don’t miss the sunset at Wategos Beach – it’s next level!
🗓️ Day 5: Byron to Sydney
Sad to leave paradise, hey? Start with a final Byron brekkie, then hit the road back. Take the inland route through Nimbin if you’re curious (but maybe not with the kids in the car!). Stop at Dorrigo National Park for a quick bushwalk – the views are bloody spectacular. Arrive back in Sydney around dinner time, completely knackered but already planning your next trip north!
