🔥 The car winds around the bend and suddenly the massive sandstone ridges of the Grampians (Gariwerd) loom overhead, glowing that deep ochre colour you only see in the late arvo sun. It’s the kind of view that makes you pull over, grab the camera, and just say ‘wow’. After years of exploring every nook and cranny of this Victorian gem, I’ve put together my definitive list of tracks you absolutely have to tackle this year. These are my top 12 picks for the best trails in Grampians – ranked!
1️⃣ The Pinnacle (via Wonderland Loop)
This is the absolute crown jewel for a reason, mate. The view from the top looks out over Halls Gap and Lake Bellfield, and it’s bloody breathtaking. You’ll squeeze through the Grand Canyon and do a bit of rock scrambling, which keeps it fun and engaging. It can get busy, so go early to beat the crowds.
2️⃣ MacKenzie Falls (Broken Falls)
You hear the roar before you even see it. After the big rains last season, this waterfall has been pumping! It’s a bit of a steep walk back up the stairs, but standing at the bottom getting sprayed by the mist is totally worth the sweat. Definitely one of the most iconic spots in the park.
3️⃣ Mount Abrupt
If you want a solid workout with a killer reward, this is it. It’s a steep climb through beautiful eucalypt forest before you pop out onto the summit ridge. You get 360-degree views of the Serra Range and the surrounding plains. It’s a ripper of a leg burner but oh-so-satisfying.
4️⃣ The Balconies (Reed Lookout)
Famous for that ‘rock on a stick’ photo op that everyone posts on Insta. It’s an easy walk from the carpark, but the sheer drop-offs are wild! The view out over the Victoria Valley is stunning, especially at sunset. Great for the whole family or if you’re short on time.
5️⃣ Chatauqua Peak Loop
Starting right near Halls Gap, this loop offers a bit of everything—wildflowers, rock formations, and stunning views of the town below. It’s a great introduction to the Grampians landscape without the massive crowds you find at the Pinnacle. Perfect for a morning stretch.
6️⃣ Mount William (Duwil)
This is the highest point in the Grampians, so naturally, I had to include it. It’s a steady grind up a fire road, so you don’t need technical skills, just endurance. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the coast. Bring a jacket; it gets windy up there!
7️⃣ Beehive Falls
A bit of a hidden gem compared to MacKenzie, but just as pretty. It flows best in winter and spring, tumbling over rock slabs. The walk takes you through a ferny gully that feels ancient and super peaceful. Keep an eye out for wallabies on the track.
8️⃣ Venus Baths Loop
This is such a chill walk, literally. You follow Stony Creek through the forest to these natural rock pools that look like bathtubs. It’s super popular in summer for a dip. It connects nicely to the Silverband Falls walk if you want to extend your adventure.
9️⃣ Mount Difficult
The name doesn’t lie—it’s a tough one! But the solitude you get here is magic. Most tourists stick to the Pinnacle, so you’ll often have this rocky summit to yourself. The views of the Wonderland Range are unmatched. Not for beginners, but adventurous souls will love it.
🔟 Silverband Falls
What makes this unique is that the creek actually disappears underground! It’s a pretty flat and easy walk through lush bushland. Even when it hasn’t rained much, there’s usually a trickle. It’s a great option for a lazy arvo stroll.
✨ Boroka Peak Lookout
Probably the best ‘effort-to-reward’ ratio in the whole park. You can practically drive to the edge of the cliff! The boardwalk gives you expansive views of the Wonderland and Mt William ranges. Perfect if you’ve got mobility issues or just want to soak in the scenery without the hike.
✨ The Grampians Peak Trail (Multi-day)
Okay, this is the big one. A 13-day epic that links up the major peaks. I’m doing sections of it this year because you can’t rush perfection. If you’re keen for a serious remote bushwalking experience with camping under the stars, this is the ultimate 2026 challenge.
🏅 Honourable Mentions
If you’ve got extra time, check out Hollow Mountain (great for rock scrambling), Briggs Bluff (remote and wild), and Rosea’s Tower (top spot for birdwatching). There’s just so much terrain out here, you could spend a month exploring!

💡 Tips & Warnings
✅ Download offline maps because reception can be spotty in the gullies.

⚠️ Watch out for snakes in the warmer months, especially on rocky ledges.
❌ Don’t ignore the track closures—some areas are still recovering from past storms.
