Mark your calendars – Blue Mountains Reopens After Blue Mountains Festival is coming!

🔥 Standing at the edge of the Echo Point lookout, the morning mist slowly lifts to reveal the iconic Three Sisters bathed in golden sunlight, as the Blue Mountains gears up to welcome visitors back after this year’s incredible festival!

📅 Event Details

The Blue Mountains officially reopened to all visitors from January 10, 2026, following the hugely successful Blue Mountains Festival that wrapped up last weekend. The festival brought together over 15,000 outdoor enthusiasts from across Australia and beyond, celebrating everything from trail running to Aboriginal cultural experiences. This year’s festival featured record-breaking participation in the Blue Mountains Ultra Marathon, with over 800 runners tackling the challenging courses through the World Heritage-listed landscapes.

⭐ What’s New for Visitors

There’s some ripper new additions since the festival! The Scenic World has just launched their new ‘Eco Explorer’ pass that includes unlimited rides on the Scenic Railway, Skyway, and Cableway plus access to new walking tracks. The Katoomba to Leura section of the Six Foot Track has been upgraded with better signage and rest stops. Plus, heaps of local cafes and eateries in Leura and Katoomba have introduced new menus featuring native Australian ingredients – perfect for a post-hike brekkie or arvo snack!

📍 Location & Times

The Blue Mountains region is easily accessible from Sydney, with the main hubs being Katoomba, Wentworth Falls, and Leura. The area is now open 24/7 for outdoor activities, though visitor centers typically operate from 9am to 5pm daily. The best time to visit for hiking and trail running is early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, especially during the warmer months from December to March.

💡 How to Make the Most of Your Visit

Local rangers recommend downloading the Blue Mountains National Parks app for real-time updates on track conditions and wildlife sightings. The app also features maps of all the festival’s recommended trails, including some hidden gems that weren’t on the official program. For those looking to recreate the festival experience, many of the guided walks and workshops from the program are still available by booking in advance through the Blue Mountains Visitor Centre. Don’t forget to pack your sunnies and plenty of water – the elevation can sneak up on you!

💡 Tips & Warnings

✅ Check the NSW National Parks website before heading out for any track closures or fire bans
❌ Don’t attempt to hike without adequate water and sun protection – even short walks can be challenging
⚠️ Mobile reception is limited in many areas – download maps and info before entering the bush

🚀 Will you be there? 🚀 The Blue Mountains are calling your name – perfect for a weekend adventure or even a day trip from Sydney!
