π₯ Did you know that Broome boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually? But if you’re planning a trip up north soon, you need to hear this! π¨ Breaking: Major Changes at Broome!
π’ What’s Happening
Huge news, mates! The Shire of Broome has just announced a significant overhaul of access to Gantheaume Point and the iconic Cable Beach camel operations starting this coming dry season. They’re implementing new traffic management zones to handle the increasing numbers of caravans and tourists. It’s gonna change how we do sunset viewing, so listen up!
π Key Details
Here’s the skinny: From the 1st of April 2026, vehicle access along the southern section of Cable Beach will be restricted to designated corridors only to protect the dunes. Also, the famous dinosaur footprints at Gantheaume Point are getting a boardwalk upgrade. This means some areas will be fenced off during construction, which is expected to last through till October 2026. You’ll still see the prints, but the free-roaming scramble might be limited.
π‘ What This Means for You
If you’ve got a 4WD and love driving right up to the water’s edge, you’ll need to stick to the new marked tracks or risk a hefty fine. For the camel lovers, the pickup points are shifting slightly north to reduce congestion near the main car park. It’s actually heaps good for safety, but just make sure you check the new maps before you rock up. Don’t get caught out!
π‘ Tips & Warnings
β
Check the Shire of Broome website for the latest access maps before driving on the beach.
β
Arrive early for sunset camel tours to secure a good parking spot in the new zones.
β οΈ Avoid driving on soft dunes or outside marked corridors – fines are strict and erosion is a real issue.
β Don’t ignore the construction signage at Gantheaume Point; safety fencing is there for a reason.
π Stay tuned for updates! π
