🔥 Did you know the Blue Mountains National Park covers over 2,400 square kilometers and is home to 400 different animal species? That’s what makes it the perfect spot for a family adventure!
🗓️ Day 1: Arrival and Scenic Wonders
Kicked off our Blue Mountains adventure with a leisurely morning brekkie before heading to Scenic World. We took the Skyway across the Jamison Valley – the views are bloody amazing! The kids loved the Scenic Railway which is steepest in the world. After lunch at the Echoes Restaurant, we wandered through the Wentworth Falls area. Make sure you pack your sunnies ’cause the glare off the cliffs is intense!
🗓️ Day 2: Wine Tasting in the Mountains
Today was all about the vino! We headed to the award-winning Darley’s Vineyard in Megalong Valley. The kids enjoyed the fresh mountain air while we sampled some of their finest drops. The cellar door is family-friendly with a great playground. After lunch, we explored the historic village of Leura with its antique shops and gorgeous gardens. Don’t miss the chocolate shop – it’s an absolute must!
🗓️ Day 3: Aboriginal Culture & Adventure
Started our day with an Aboriginal cultural tour at Waradah Aboriginal Centre. The kids learned about Dreamtime stories and traditional tools. Then it was off to Katoomba for some adventure – we did the Three Sisters walk and abseiled down cliffs with Blue Mountains Adventure Company. The instructors are top-notch and really make it safe for beginners. Our evening ended with a traditional Aussie barbie under the stars!
🗓️ Day 4: Rainforest Exploration
Today we immersed ourselves in the rainforests of the Blue Mountains. We took the Prince Henry Cliff Walk from Govetts Leap to Evans Lookout – about 3 hours of moderate walking. The kids spotted lyrebirds and wallabies! For lunch, we had gourmet sandwiches at Conservation Hut while watching parrots. In the arvo, we visited the stunning Jenolan Caves – the Orient Cave is heaps good for families. Book ahead though, they fill up quick!
🗓️ Day 5: Last Adventure & Departure
On our final day, we did something a bit different – went canyoneering with Blue Mountains Canyoning Adventures. The kids (over 12) absolutely loved it! It’s a proper adventure with swimming through waterholes and sliding down natural rock slides. After getting changed, we had a final farewell coffee at the Carrington Hotel before heading back to Sydney. The kids were shattered but already asking when we can come back!
💰 Total Trip Cost Breakdown
For our family of four, here’s what we spent: Accommodation (3 nights): $850, Food & Groceries: $600, Activities & Tours: $950, Transport: $200, Miscellaneous: $200. Total: $2,800 for 5 days. That’s pretty reasonable considering we did heaps of activities! We saved money by cooking most meals ourselves and staying in self-contained accommodation.
