Ever wondered what it’s like to run through the heart of Australia’s Sunshine Coast? 🏃‍♂️✨

🔥 Just got back from a week of epic trail runs in the Sunshine Coast, and mate, I’ve seen some proper ripper tracks! Here’s exactly how to nail it without burning out.

🗓️ Day 1: The Iconic Eumundi to Maleny Run

Start your Sunshine Coast trail adventure at the famous Eumundi to Maleny Walking Track (ETM). It’s a 17km track, but for us runners, we focus on the first 8km which is flat, shaded, and absolutely gorgeous. You’ll pass through rainforests and past waterfalls! It’s the perfect warm-up. Grab a brekkie at Eumundi Markets before you head out—grab some fresh berries and hit the trail. The surface is mostly hard-packed dirt, so you don’t need serious technical shoes, just good grip.

🗓️ Day 2: Noosa Heads to Tea Tree Bay

Right next to the famous Noosa National Park, this is a 6km return loop that’s steep but rewarding. You’re climbing up to The Summit for views that’ll take your breath away (literally!). Watch out for kangaroos hopping around near the car park early in the morning. It’s a steep ascent, so take your time. The trail is well-marked with white arrows painted on rocks. I highly recommend going at sunrise to beat the heat and the crowds.

🗓️ Day 3: Gympie-Gympie Trail & Glass House Mountains

Head north to the Glass House Mountains for a 14km loop around the base of one of the volcanic peaks (Mt Ngungun is a classic). It’s rugged, rocky, and gives you that proper mountain feel. The trail switches back up the side of the mountain, so expect some serious leg burn! It’s a bit more technical here, so bring trekking poles if you’re not used to rough terrain. The views from the top are insane, though we usually turn back halfway for a more manageable run.

🗓️ Day 4: Mudgeerah to Mount Nebo via the Forest

This 12km point-to-point run takes you through lush subtropical rainforest. It’s shaded, cool, and feels like stepping into a movie set! You’ll see plenty of birdlife—keep your eyes peeled for kookaburras. The trail connects Mudgeerah to Mount Nebo, and while it’s a bit longer, the elevation changes are moderate. Perfect for mid-week training runs when you want to escape the city noise.

💰 Total Trip Cost & Budget Tips

Good news! Most of these trails are FREE to access. The only cost is parking at Noosa National Park ($10/day) and maybe a coffee or smoothie after. You don’t need expensive gear—just good shoes, a hydration vest (or a simple belt), and sunscreen. Pack your own snacks to save cash. The best part? You can do all of this on a shoestring budget and still have an absolute blast!

💡 Pro Tips from a Local

1. Bring layers—the weather changes fast in the rainforest. 2. Check fire bans before you go, especially in summer. 3. Tell someone your route! Mobile coverage is spotty in the hinterland. 4. Carry a small first aid kit and plenty of water (at least 1L per hour). 5. Respect the wildlife—don’t feed or approach kangaroos!

💡 Tips & Warnings

✅ Pack a lightweight rain jacket—weather can shift from sunny to pouring in minutes!
❌ Don’t run alone in the deeper rainforest sections if you’re a beginner; stick to marked trails.
⚠️ Watch for snake activity in warmer months (Oct-April). Use a torch at dawn/dusk and stay alert.
