🔥 The crisp mountain air hits your lungs as you step out of the car, that unmistakable eucalyptus scent mixing with the promise of adventure – this is the Blue Mountains calling your name, and I’ve got the inside scoop on the absolute best experiences this year!
1️⃣ Scenic World Katoomba
📍 Katoomba | ⏱️ Half day
The ultimate Blue Mountains experience with those iconic views you’ve seen in photos but never quite imagined this good! The Skyway glides you across the valley floor, the Scenic Railway is the steepest passenger railway in the world, and the walkway through the rainforest is bloody magic. Don’t forget your sunnies and camera for this ripper of a day out!
2️⃣ Wentworth Falls Lookout Walk
 Wentworth Falls | ⏱️ 2-3 hours
This is my absolute favourite walk for those postcard-perfect shots. The track takes you to multiple viewpoints of the cascading waterfalls, and if you go after rain, it’s absolutely spectacular! Pack a brekkie and make a day of it – the sound of water crashing down the valley is something else!
3️⃣ Jenolan Caves
📍 Jenolan Caves Road | ⏱️ Half to full day
These limestone caves are over 340 million years old and are just breathtaking. The Lucas Cave tour is my go-to – it’s got everything from grand chambers to narrow passages. Pro tip: book ahead in summer ‘cos they fill up faster than a cold beer on a hot arvo!
4️⃣ Three Sisters Viewpoint
Echo Point | ⏱️ 1-2 hours
You can’t come to the Blue Mountains without seeing the Three Sisters! While it gets busy, the views are absolutely worth it. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and get that perfect shot without heaps of people photobombing you!
5️⃣ Leura Cascades Walk
📍 Leura | ⏱️ 1-2 hours
This hidden gem is just a short walk from Leura village and takes you to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by ferns and native plants. It’s a bit of a secret spot, so you’ll often have it all to yourself. Perfect for a peaceful arvo stroll!
6️⃣ Blackheath Gardens
📍 Blackheath | ⏱️ 1-2 hours
These formal gardens are absolutely stunning, especially in spring when everything’s in bloom. The Rhododendron Dell is something special – a magical little valley filled with colour and the sweet smell of flowers. Pack a picnic and make a proper day of it!
7️⃣ Glenbrook Native Garden
📍 Glenbrook | ⏱️ 1 hour
If you want to see Australian native plants at their best, this is the spot. It’s a bit off the main tourist trail, so you’ll get a more authentic experience. The birdlife here is incredible – I’ve seen kookaburras, lorikeets, and even the occasional wedge-tailed eagle!
8️⃣ Honeymoon Lookout
Blackheath | ⏱️ 30 minutes
This lookout offers one of the most spectacular 180-degree views of the Grose Valley. It’s not as well-known as the main lookouts, so you’ll generally have it to yourself, especially on weekdays. Perfect for watching the sunset paint the valley in gold and red!
9️⃣ Mount York Track
Mount York | ⏱️ 2-3 hours
For those who want a proper hike with historical significance, this track takes you along the route of the original road over the mountains. The views are epic, and you’ll pass convict-era stone walls and other historic bits and pieces. A bit challenging but heaps good!
🔟 Katoomba Falls Boardwalk
📍 Katoomba | ⏱️ 1 hour
This easy walk takes you right alongside Katoomba Falls, with multiple viewpoints to admire the cascading water. It’s perfect for families or those wanting a gentler experience. In winter, when the falls are flowing strong, it’s absolutely spectacular!
✨ Megalong Valley Horse Riding
Megalong Valley | ⏱️ 2 hours
There’s nothing quite like exploring the Blue Mountains on horseback! Megalong Valley offers rides suitable for all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned riders. The views as you trot through the valley are just unreal – you’ll feel like you’re in a proper Aussie western!
✨ Govetts Leap Lookout
Blackheath | ⏱️ 30 minutes
This lesser-known lookout offers some of the most dramatic views in the Blue Mountains. The waterfall drops directly into a deep pool, creating a thunderous sound that echoes through the valley. It’s a bit of a hidden gem, so you’ll often have it all to yourself!
🏆 My Top Pick
If I had to pick just one experience, it’s gotta be Wentworth Falls Lookout Walk. The combination of stunning scenery, manageable walking distance, and that magical feeling when you’re standing right at the edge of the waterfall – it’s just unbeatable. Do it early morning when the light is perfect for photos!

💡 Tips & Warnings
✅ Pack layers! Even in summer, it can get chilly up in the mountains, especially early morning and evening

⚠️ Some tracks can be slippery after rain – wear proper walking shoes with good grip
