π₯ What if I told you Australia’s got some of the most breathtaking cycling routes in the world? After exploring hundreds of tracks across this great country, I’ve narrowed down my absolute faves for 2025!
π 1οΈβ£ Murray to Mountains Rail Trail
This VIC beauty stretches from Wangaratta to Bright, taking you through stunning vineyards and mountain scenery. The 98km mostly downhill ride is bloody ripper for all fitness levels. I did it last month and the views of the Victorian Alps? Unreal!
π 2οΈβ£ Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
QLD’s longest rail trail at 161km! Starts at Wulkuraka and winds through rainforests and farmland. Best bit? The section from Esk to Yarraman – proper Aussie bushland with kangaroos hopping about. Perfect for a weekend adventure!
π 3οΈβ£ The Adelaide to Melbourne Coastal Route
A classic 770km journey along the Great Ocean Road! Last summer I rode the most scenic stretch from Port Fairy to Portland. The coastal views are heaps good, and you’ll pass some legendary surf breaks too!
π 4οΈβ£ The Blue Mountains Grand Cycle Loop
NSW’s answer to epic cycling! This 85km loop takes in rainforests, lookouts, and historic villages. Went for a ripper ride here last autumn – the colours were something else! The descent into Katoomba is an absolute highlight!
π 5οΈβ£ The Tasmanian Trail
480km from Hobart to Devonport through some of Tassie’s most remote wilderness. Proper adventure territory! I did a section near Lake St Clair last year – misty mornings and fresh air that’ll clear your head in seconds!
π 6οΈβ£ The Munda Biddi Trail
WA’s 1000km off-road cycling trail from Mundaring to Albany. The section through the jarrah forests near Collie is my favourite – proper Aussie bush with wildflowers in spring. Bit of a challenge but so worth it!
π 7οΈβ£ The V2 Greenway
Canberra’s 58km path that circles the city. Perfect for families and beginners! I often ride the section around Lake Ginninderra – great for a morning spin with proper coffee spots nearby. The autumn colours around the lake are ripper!
π 8οΈβ£ The Flinders Ranges Loop
SA’s outback cycling adventure! The 160km loop from Hawker takes you through rugged ranges and gorges. Did the ride last spring – the wildflowers were blooming everywhere and the red soil against the blue sky? Bloody beautiful!
π 9οΈβ£ The Great Southern Rail Trail
VIC’s newest rail trail from Colac to Camperdown. The section through the volcanic plains is something special. I rode it in winter – misty mornings and the occasional kangaroo hopping across the path. Proper peaceful!
π π The Gold Coast Hinterland Loop
QLD’s mix of coast and mountains! The 50km loop from Numinbah Valley takes you through rainforests and offers stunning coastal views. Last weekend I rode the Tamborine Mountain section – the views from the lookout are unreal!
π 1οΈβ£1οΈβ£ The Yarra Valley Wine Ride
VIC’s foodie cycling experience! The 50km loop through Yarra Valley’s vineyards is perfect for a leisurely day out. Did it last spring – stopping for cellar door tastings between rides is the only way to do it!
π 1οΈβ£2οΈβ£ The Tropical North Circuit
QLD’s rainforest adventure! The 70km circuit from Cairns takes you through Atherton Tablelands. I rode it last summer – the waterfalls and swimming holes are perfect for cooling off. The cassowary sightings are a bonus!
π 1οΈβ£3οΈβ£ The Kangaroo Island Coastal Trail
SA’s island cycling gem! The 100km trail takes you along stunning coastline and through national parks. Did the Flinders Chase section last autumn – the wildlife there is something else!
π 1οΈβ£4οΈβ£ The Margaret River Wine Region Ride
WA’s food and wine cycling experience! The 30km loop through vineyards is perfect for a day trip. Last spring I rode from Cowaramup to Margaret River – stopping at breweries between rides is the only way to go!
π 1οΈβ£5οΈβ£ The East Coast Cycle Trail
QLD’s coastal beauty! The 100km trail from Bundaberg to Bargara takes you through sugarcane fields and coastal scenery. I rode it in winter – the coastal views are heaps good and not too many crowds!
