🔥 The car winds around the bend and suddenly you’re there – golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see, waves crashing gently on the shore, and that unmistakable salty tang in the air. Welcome to Byron Bay, mate, where the surf is calling your name without breaking the bank!
1️⃣ The Pass
This iconic spot is where it all begins for most surfers in Byron. Protected from the main swell, it’s perfect for beginners with gentle rolling waves. The vibe is always friendly, and you’ll find heaps of locals happy to give tips. Best in the morning before the crowds roll in!
2️⃣ Wategos Beach
For those willing to trek a bit further, this little gem offers pristine water and usually less crowded breaks. The beach is sheltered, making it ideal for intermediate surfers. The short walk through the coastal path is half the fun – spotting dolphins on the way is a regular occurrence!
3️⃣ Main Beach
Right in the heart of town, this spot is perfect for a quick surf session when you’re staying in Byron. The waves are consistent and there’s always something happening. Great for watching the pros practice their moves and soaking in that Byron surf culture.
4️⃣ Belongil Beach
A bit further north from town, this spot offers more challenging waves for intermediate surfers. The beach is beautiful and less crowded than Main Beach. Be careful here though – the rips can be sneaky, so best to stick to the patrolled areas.
5️⃣ Cosy Corner
As the name suggests, this spot is tucked away and offers a more intimate surfing experience. The waves here can get epic, but they’re usually for more experienced surfers. The view of the lighthouse from out here is absolutely ripper!
6️⃣ Sullivan’s Bay
A hidden gem that most tourists miss, this spot offers consistent waves and a laid-back vibe. The beach is dog-friendly, so if you’ve brought your furry mate along, they’ll love running along the shore while you catch some waves.
7️⃣ Tallow Beach
Stretching for miles, this beach offers multiple breaks depending on where you decide to paddle out. The northern end is better for beginners while the southern end offers more challenge. The sunsets from here are absolutely bloody spectacular!
8️⃣ Broken Head
This spot is a bit of a hike from town but worth every step. The waves here are quality and the scenery is unreal. You’ll often have the place to yourself, especially on weekdays. Just be careful of the rocky outcrop on the southern end.
9️⃣ Middle Beach
Located between The Pass and Wategos, this spot is perfect for those who want a bit more privacy. The waves are generally smaller and more forgiving, making it ideal for longboarders or those just getting their confidence up.
🔟 Clarkes Beach
Smaller than Main Beach but often with better waves, this spot is great for a quick session when you’re in town. The water is usually calmer here, making it perfect for practicing your pop-ups or just enjoying a gentle paddle.
