🔥 Did you know that the Gold Coast hinterland boasts over 160 kilometres of walking tracks with waterfalls that drop more than 100 metres? That’s why I’ve spent the last five years ticking off these adventures to bring you the absolute best!
1️⃣ Natural Bridge Circuit
📍 Springbrook National Park | ⏱️ 1.5 hours
This little ripper is perfect for families and features a stunning waterfall that flows through a rock arch. You can even go behind the falls – trust me, the photos are epic! The glowworm cave at night is absolutely bonkers too.
2️⃣ Burleigh Headland Hike
📍 Burleigh Heads | ⏱️ 1 hour
One of my all-time favourite coastal walks! You’ll get sweeping ocean views, rainforest sections, and spot heaps of local wildlife. Best done at sunrise when the light is ripper and you’ll have the place to yourself.
3️⃣ Byron Bay Kayaking with Dolphins
📍 Byron Bay | ⏱️ Half day
This is hands down the most magical experience on the list. Paddling out with dolphins playing in your wake while whales migrate past? Bloody unreal! The local operators know all the best spots to find marine life.
4️⃣ Springbrook Plateau Lookouts
📍 Springbrook National Park | ⏱️ 2 hours
The Purling Brook Falls and Best of All Lookouts will blow your mind. You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world with views stretching all the way to the ocean. The drive up is a bit of a mission but totally worth it.
5️⃣ Currumbin Rock Pools
📍 Currumbin Valley | ⏱️ 2-3 hours
These natural swimming holes are a local secret that stays cool even in summer. You can jump off rocks into crystal clear water, have a barbie, and just chill out. Perfect for a hot arvo adventure with mates.
6️⃣ Lamington National Park Skywalk
📍 Green Mountains | ⏱️ Half day
Walking 30 metres above the rainforest canopy gives you a proper perspective on how massive these ancient trees are. The binna burra section is heaps quieter than main Lamington and just as beautiful.
7️⃣ Tallebudgera Creek Kayaking
🭐 Palm Beach | ⏱️ 2 hours
Calm waters perfect for beginners or families. You can paddle up to the estuary where the creek meets the ocean and spot heaps of birdlife. The sunset sessions here are absolutely stunning – pack some nibbles for a post-paddle feast.
8️⃣ Ningi Ningi Track
🭐 Bribie Island | ⏱️ 3 hours
This hidden gem on Bribie Island takes you through coastal heath and mangrove forests. The beach section is pristine and you’ll feel like you’ve discovered your own private paradise. The drive up the beach is an adventure in itself!
9️⃣ Spring Creek Mountain Bike Trails
🭐 Nerang | ⏱️ Half day
For the adrenaline junkies! These purpose-built trails have everything from beginner-friendly fire roads to challenging single tracks. The views from the top are worth the uphill grind – trust me on this one!
🔟 Point Danger Lighthouse Walk
📍 Coolangatta | ⏱️ 45 minutes
Short but incredibly rewarding! You’ll get panoramic views of the coastline from Tweed Heads to Surfers Paradise. The history here is fascinating too – this was one of the first lighthouses in the region. Best enjoyed at sunset with a cold one in hand.
✨ Minyon Falls Base Circuit
🭐 Nightcap National Park | ⏱️ 2 hours
This walk takes you down into the valley with a massive 100-metre waterfall as your reward. The rainforest is ancient and full of birdlife. The walk back up is a proper workout but the views from the top make it all worthwhile.
✨ Cabbage Tree Creek Walk
🭐 Southport | ⏱️ 1 hour
An urban escape that feels a million miles from the city. This coastal walk takes you through mangroves and tidal flats where you’ll spot heaps of birdlife. The kids love it too – there’s always something interesting to see!
✨ Mt Warning Summit Hike
🭐 Murwillumbah | ⏱️ 4-5 hours
This beast of a hike takes you to the first place in Australia to see the sunrise. It’s a proper mission with steep sections but the 360-degree views are absolutely worth it. Start at 4am to catch the golden hour – you won’t regret it!
✨ Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Feeding
🭐 Currumbin | ⏱️ 2 hours
More than just a zoo – this is where you can get up close and personal with Aussie wildlife. The lorikeet feeding is legendary and you’ll learn so much about our native animals from the keepers who genuinely care about conservation.
✨ The Jump Pinball at Burleigh
🭐 Burleigh Heads | ⏱️ 2 hours
If you’re after an adrenaline rush, this is it! Australia’s only underwater pinball experience takes you through a massive floating obstacle course. It’s heaps good fun and the photos of you flying through the air will be your new social media gold!
🏆 My Top Pick
If I had to pick just one adventure from this list, it’d be the Byron Bay Kayaking with Dolphins. There’s nothing quite like paddling out at dawn, feeling the ocean beneath you, and having dolphins join you in their natural habitat. It’s pure magic and something you’ll remember forever!
