🔥 The smell of salty ocean air mixes with the scent of fresh earth as you walk along the newly revitalised path at Cape Byron, where the iconic lighthouse track just got a serious facelift!
📢 What’s Happening
Massive news, crew! The Cape Byron Walking Track has officially reopened today after finishing a huge upgrade project. They’ve resurfaced sections of the track that were getting a bit rough around the edges and improved the drainage to stop those muddy puddles after rain. It’s part of a broader initiative to protect the headland while making it easier for everyone to enjoy that cracking view without busting a gut.
📋 Key Details
The main focus was on the section from the Pass to Wategos Beach. The old gravel has been replaced with a compacted, all-weather surface that’s pram and wheelchair friendly (much better access now, mate!). They’ve also added new signage to stop people getting lost and widened some of the tighter pinch points. Work started late last year and finished just in time for the peak whale watching season.
💡 What This Means for You
Honestly? It’s a win. If you’ve visited before and found the track a bit slippery or steep, you’re gonna love the changes. It’s safer, especially for kids and older family members. You can now get to the most photographed lighthouse in Oz with way less hassle. Just keep in mind that while it’s ‘open’, there might still be a few finishing touches happening on the side paths, so stick to the main track!
💡 Tips & Warnings
✅ Head there early morning for sunrise to beat the crowds and spot some whales!
✅ Wear sturdy walking shoes—even with the upgrade, it’s still a hilly walk with stairs.
❌ Don’t forget your sunnies and sunscreen—there’s zero shade along the exposed clifftops.
⚠️ ⚠️ Be careful near the cliff edges, especially when taking selfies. Waves can be unpredictable!
🚀 Stay tuned for updates! 🚀
