π₯ Just got back from a week in the Blue Mountains with the kids, and let me tell you, waking up to that crisp mountain air is absolutely ripper!
ποΈ Day 1: Leura Charm & The Blue Tint
Kick off the trip by driving into Leura. Youβll immediately notice that iconic blue haze clinging to the valleysβthatβs the eucalyptus oil reacting with sunlight! Spend your morning wandering the boutique shops, grabbing a brekkie at one of those cute cafes (I reckon The Leura Bakehouse is heaps good). In the arvo, walk through the Leura Cascades. The waterfalls are magical this time of year after a few rains. Stay overnight in the town to keep things easy with the little ones.
ποΈ Day 2: The Big Three & Waterfall Circuit
Head to Wentworth Falls early. Itβs the tallest in the range, and seeing the water drop 260 metres is mind-blowing. Afterward, do the Waterfall Circuit walkβitβs mostly flat and perfect for families. Youβll see a ton of wildlife, maybe even some wallabies grazing near the picnic areas. Donβt forget your sunnies; the UV here is no joke, even on cloudy days!
ποΈ Day 3: Jamison Valley Lookouts
This is the classic Blue Mountains stuff. Start at Echo Point to see the Three Sisters rock formation. The kids will love trying to spot which one is which! From there, take the Scenic World railway if you want a thrill, or just stick to the lookouts. The views over Jamison Valley are stunning. Pack a picnic because thereβs nowhere better to eat your sandwiches than on those grassy knolls overlooking the gorge.
ποΈ Day 4: Katoomba Falls & Giant Stairs
Drive north to Blackheath. The walk down the Giant Stairs is steep but short, leading you to the base of Katoomba Falls. The sound of the water crashing into the pool is so peaceful. If youβre feeling brave, thereβs a short track to Minaret Poolβa refreshing swim spot if the waterβs warm enough! Itβs one of those spots that feels like a secret garden.
ποΈ Day 5: Scenic World & CloudStreet
Who doesnβt love a bit of adrenaline? Head to Scenic World. You can take the worldβs steepest railway or the glass-bottomed Skyway. The kids loved the Skywayβit swings over the valley! Afterward, grab lunch at CloudStreet, a food hall right next to the station. Itβs got all sorts of options from dumplings to burgers, so everyoneβs happy.
ποΈ Day 6: Natureβs Playground & Wildlife
Spend this day at the Australian Reptile Park or just chilling at a local wildlife sanctuary. If youβre into camping, this is the day to find a campsite near Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens. The gardens are beautiful, and you might spot some koalas hanging out in the gum trees. Itβs a slower pace day, perfect for letting the kids burn off energy on playgrounds or just reading by the campfire.
ποΈ Day 7: Sunrises & Souvenirs
For the last day, catch a sunrise at one of the lesser-known lookouts like Megalong Valley. Itβs quieter and just as pretty. Before you head home, stop at the local markets in Katoomba for some handmade souvenirs. Itβs a ripper way to end the trip, filling your bags with memories and maybe a handmade scarf or some local honey.
