π₯ G’day mate! After 5 years of getting my rope on in the Blue Mountains, I’ve learnt the hard way what you actually need versus what’s just dead weight. Don’t forget these abseiling essentials!
π§ Essential Abseiling Gear
β Harness – Properly fitted, double-checked every time
β Helmet – Non-negotiable for loose rocks
β Ropes – Dynamic rope for safety, static for hauling
β Belay device – ATC or GriGri, whatever you’re comfy with
β Carabiners – Locking ‘biners for main connections
β Gloves – Save your hands from rope burn
π Clothing & Footwear
β Sturdy hiking boots – Ankle support is crucial
β Weather-appropriate layers – Blue Mountains weather changes fast!
β Rain jacket – Even if it’s sunny at the carpark
β Long pants – Protect your legs from scrapes
β Sunnies – The glare off those sandstone cliffs is no joke
π Safety & Navigation
β First aid kit – Include blister treatment
β Headtorch – Even for day trips (you never know!)
