Here are my favourite outdoor adventure spots in Gold Coast!

🔥 Did you know that the Gold Coast has over 70km of stunning coastline with world-class beaches, rainforests, and waterfalls all within an hour’s drive of each other? It’s bloody unreal for outdoor enthusiasts like us!

🏄 Burleigh Heads National Park

This place is an absolute ripper for coastal walks and surfing. The track from Tallebudgera Creek to Burleigh offers epic ocean views and is perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers. Last weekend I spotted a pod of dolphins just off the point while I was having my brekkie on the rocks. The surf breaks here are heaps good for intermediate surfers, and the beach is protected from southerly winds, making it perfect for those learning to ride the waves.

🌿 Springbrook National Park

Mate, if you wanna experience some proper Aussie rainforest, this is where it’s at! The Natural Bridge section has glowworm caves that are just magical at sunset. I did the 4-hour return hike to the Purling Brook Falls last month and it was bloody worth every step. The water at the bottom is perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot arvo. Make sure you bring mozzie repellent though – those little buggers are relentless in the rainforest!

🏕️ Lamington National Park

This place is a paradise for bushwalkers and nature lovers. The Binna Burra section has walks ranging from easy strolls to challenging multi-day hikes. I did the 2-day walk to Mount Merino and Mount Roberts last year and woke up to absolute mist-covered views – it was like something out of a postcard! The wildlife spotting is unreal here – I’ve seen pademelons, goannas, and even heard the call of the endangered Albert’s lyrebird. The camping facilities are pretty good too, with proper toilets and fire pits.

🧗 Coomera Gorge

If you’re into rock climbing or abseiling, Coomera Gorge is your playground. The granite cliffs offer routes for all skill levels, from beginner-friendly slabs to challenging overhangs. I did my first multi-pitch climb here last season and the feeling of accomplishment was unreal! The river at the bottom is perfect for a swim between climbs, and the wildlife spotting opportunities are heaps good – keep your eyes peeled for koalas in the eucalyptus trees above.

🚴 Southport Broadwater

For water activities without the ocean waves, the Broadwater is a ripper spot. You can hire kayaks, paddleboards, or even try your hand at kiteboarding. I spent a lazy arvo here last month with some mates, paddling around the islands and spotting birdlife. The sunset views from the Nerang River are absolutely stunning, and there are heaps of picnic spots along the shore. It’s a great spot for families too, with calm waters perfect for kids to splash around in.

💡 Tips & Warnings

✅ Check weather conditions before heading out, especially for coastal areas where conditions can change rapidly
❌ Don’t forget to bring sunnies, sunscreen, and a hat – the Aussie sun can be brutal, even on cloudy days
⚠️ Be aware of wildlife in national parks – never feed animals and keep food securely stored to avoid attracting unwanted visitors
✅ Download offline maps for national parks as mobile coverage can be patchy in remote areas
