Did you know Sydney has over 400km of coastline? My top 5 picks for bushwalking near Sydney – ranked! 🦘

🔥 With over 400km of stunning coastline and endless national parks right on our doorstep, it’s no wonder Sydneysiders are obsessed with the outdoors! I’ve spent the last 5 years exploring every nook and cranny of this beautiful city, and honestly, picking just five tracks was tough, but these are the absolute rippers you can’t miss. My top 5 picks for bushwalking near Sydney – ranked!

1️⃣ Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

This is the classic Sydney stroll for a reason! It’s a 6km stretch of pure magic with ocean views that’ll make your jaw drop. You’ll hit Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte, and Coogee beaches. I did this walk last weekend and stopped for a swim at Bronte—absolute perfection. It can get busy with tourists, but the vibe is always electric. Best done in the morning to beat the crowds and grab a coffee at the end.

2️⃣ Royal National Park Coast Track

If you want a proper adventure without leaving the metro area, this is it. Being the world’s second-oldest national park, it’s got serious creds. You can do the full 26km overnight or just a section like Wattamolla to Garie Beach. The scenery is wild—rugged cliffs, palm forests, and crystal-clear lagoons. Make sure you pack your swimmers because the lagoon at Wattamolla is heaps good for a dip.

3️⃣ Blue Mountains – Grand Canyon Track

Alright, this one is for the legends who don’t mind a bit of a climb. Located near Blackheath, this track takes you right into the heart of the Jamison Valley. It’s about 6km of walking through rainforests, past waterfalls, and underneath massive sandstone walls. I did this track in autumn and the colours were unreal. You’ll need a reasonable level of fitness, but the payoff is massive.

4️⃣ Figure 8 Pools (Royal National Park)

This spot blew up on Instagram a few years ago, and for good reason—it’s nature’s own infinity pool! It’s a bit of a trek from Burning Palms Beach (about 3-4km return), so wear sturdy shoes because the rocks are slippery. ⚠️ Critical tip: You absolutely MUST check the tide and swell charts before you go. If the ocean is rough, the pools are dangerous. But on a calm day? It’s a ripper of a day out.

5️⃣ Barrenjoey Lighthouse Walk

Located up at Palm Beach on the Northern Beaches, this walk is short but sweet. You can take the Smugglers Track for a bit of a bush bash or the easier stairs. The 360-degree views from the top of the lighthouse are bloody brilliant—you can see all the way back to the city and out to the Central Coast. Perfect for a sunset arvo with mates or a date. It’s one of my go-to spots when I want a quick nature fix.
