π₯ Just got back from a ripper 5 days in Byron Bay, and let me tell you, the smell of salt air mingling with eucalyptus trees is pure magic for the whole family!
ποΈ Day 1: Byron Bay Beaches & Lighthouse Walk
Kick off your trip with the classic Byron experience! Start early to beat the heat. Head straight for the Cape Byron Lighthouse walkβitβs a 1.5km out-and-back that offers the best sunrise views over the Pacific (trust me, worth waking up early for!). Afterward, soak up some rays at Main Beach. Itβs calm, perfect for kids to splash around. Wrap up with seafood chowder at one of the waterfront cafes. Youβll feel the stress melt away instantly!
πΆ Day 2: Byron Bay Kayaking Adventure
This is the highlight for us! Book a guided family kayak tour. We paddled through Billabong Sanctuary, spotting wallabies and platypuses from a safe distance. The water is so clear you can see fish darting around! For beginners, donβt worryβthe guides are legends and keep it fun. Afterward, grab a brekkie of pancakes at a local spot. Itβs the perfect way to explore the coastline without breaking the bank!
πΏ Day 3: Springbrook & Waterfalls Day Trip
Swap the salt air for lush rainforest! Drive 45 mins south to Springbrook National Park. We tackled the Waterfall Creek Walk (easy grade, great for strollers or older kids). Seeing the ancient ferns and hearing the water crash is just so primal. Pack a picnic! We ate under the trees near High Pressure Drop. Itβs cooler up there, so bring a light jacket even in summer.
π Day 4: Byron Shire & Beach Hopping
Todayβs about exploring lesser-known spots. Head to Wategos Beach for stunning views from the headlandβperfect for photos! Then, walk down to the beach itself; itβs a bit of a scramble but worth it for the clear water. In the arvo, check out the Byron Bay Flea Market (if itβs a Sunday!). Itβs packed with local crafts, live music, and street food. Get the lamb roll from ‘The Shed’βabsolute gold!
π Day 5: Relaxation & Souvenir Shopping
Chill out at Minyon Falls in Border Ranges National Park. Itβs a short walk to the viewpoint, and seeing that 150m waterfall crashing into the gorge is breathtaking. Before you leave, browse the local boutiques for handmade jewellery or surf gear. We grabbed some local honey and macadamia nuts to take home. Finish with a sunset BBQ at your accommodation or a local parkβitβs the perfect way to say ciao to Byron!
