π₯ Just got back from an absolute ripper of a weekend mountain biking in Hobart, and I’m bloody buzzing to share everything you need to know as a first-timer!
ποΈ Day 1: Basics & Wellington Park
Started Saturday morning with a proper brekkie at a local cafe before heading to Wellington Park. Spent the arvo getting familiar with the bike on the easy Fire Tower Loop. The views of kunanyi/Mount Wellington are absolutely insane! Finished with a well-deserved beer at a local brewery. Perfect gentle start to build confidence.
ποΈ Day 2: Clarence Mountain Bike Park
Sunday was next level! Hit up Clarence Mountain Bike Park which has trails for everyone. Started on the green trails, then got brave and tried my first blue track – Meehan Range. Fell off twice but bloody loved every minute! The crew there are super friendly and gave me some killer tips. Packed a picnic lunch to save some cash.
ποΈ Day 3: North South Track Adventure
Monday was the grand finale! Tackled part of the famous North South Track. Only did a 10km section as I’m still a newbie, but wow – what a ride! Flowy descents with glimpses of the Derwent River. Finished around 2pm, grabbed some fish and chips by the water, and felt like a total legend. Already planning my return trip!
π What You’ll Absolutely Need
Don’t rock up unprepared! Here’s my essentials list: Helmet (non-negotiable!), padded shorts (your bum will thank me), gloves with grip, proper MTB shoes or grippy runners, 2L water bladder, basic first aid kit, multi-tool, spare tube, pump, and of course sunnies and sunscreen. Most hire shops include helmet but nothing else.
